What a job is actually like, from someone doing it — not the website version

You're thinking about paramedic training, social work, nursing, driving trains, teaching, the police. The National Careers Service profile gives you the salary band, the hours and the entry route. The employer's 'day in the life' video gives you a good day. The interview-question listicles give you something else entirely.

What you want to know is what a bad week is like, whether people leave and where they go, what the training didn't prepare them for, and whether they would do it again. That knowledge exists in every working adult in the job, and almost none of it is on the web, because nobody writes it down while they are still doing it.

What people ask

What no search can return

Search engines read 'ask a nurse what the job is like' as a request for interview preparation, and 'talk to a social worker before I apply' as a service user looking for one. The question you are actually asking — what is it like, from inside, in a bad week — has no page, because the people who could write it are at work. The nearest things are employee reviews and the odd forum thread.
