Open question · Moving back to the UK
What's it like living in your home town again after twenty years away?
Nobody has answered this yet. It is kept here because the question itself is rarely written down, and a question that is written down can at least be found.
Why nothing on the web answers it
There are essays about this, mostly American, mostly written in the first flush. There is no honest account from someone five years back in a British town they left at eighteen: what the old friendships became, what the town had become, whether it ever felt like home again or became something else.
Who could
Anyone who went back to the place they grew up in after a long time away, for a parent, a job, a house or no reason they can name.
What they would be asked
- Did the people you knew pick up where you left off, or not?
- What had changed that you hadn't expected?
- Is it home, or somewhere you live?
- Would you tell someone else to do it?
