What's the first term of teaching actually like for a career changer?

Nobody has answered this yet. It is kept here because the question itself is rarely written down, and a question that is written down can at least be found.

Training providers describe the programme. Career-change networks describe the support. What they do not describe is the Tuesday in week seven when a class of thirty has decided you are not in charge, and what someone who had run a department for fifteen years made of that.

Anyone who went from a long career into teaching and remembers the first term clearly.

What they would be asked

• What was the worst week, and what was it actually about?
• What from your old career helped, and what got in the way?
• What did the people around you not understand about where you'd come from?
• When did it start to feel possible?
