Open question · The last makers
If you're one of the last people making it by hand, what do you wish someone would ask you?
Nobody has answered this yet. It is kept here because the question itself is rarely written down, and a question that is written down can at least be found.
Why nothing on the web answers it
The makers on the Red List are interviewed often, and the questions are usually the same: how long have you done it, is it dying, who will carry it on. Nobody seems to ask them what they would want to pass on if they could choose, or what the question is that no journalist has thought of.
Who could
Anyone who practises a craft with few practitioners left.
What they would be asked
- What do you know that will go when you stop?
- What's the question nobody has asked you?
- What does the craft actually need — money, people, customers, or something else?
- What would you tell someone thinking about learning it?
